Marquee Weddings at Home
Marquee weddings, whether they are at home or at a venue, offer the ultimate in flexibility when planning your wedding day. Starting with a blank canvas allows you to choose every element from size, style and shape of the marquee, down to the style of décor, table layout and even the smallest of details such as the colour of the internal lighting.
You’ll also need to give some consideration to the more practical details, such as flooring and heating for winter or cool evenings. I would highly recommend hiring your wedding marquee through an established and reputable company who can offer advice on these practicalities.
There is such a wonderful variety of marquees available, traditional marquees can come in all shapes and sizes, some even have the option of clear walls to take advantage of the views in a stunning location. You can also choose between tipis, yurts and even sailcloth pole tents such as those supplied by Sail and Peg. This variety means that you can choose a marquee to suit any size of wedding from a small intimate gathering to a large and lavish celebration.

When planning a marquee wedding at home your garden is one of your major considerations. You’ll need to make sure you have enough space for a marquee large enough to accommodate your guests and this is another area where a reputable marquee hire company can provide advice. Once you’ve established the location of the marquee you’ll want to make sure that the garden looks it’s best and that is likely to take some planning well in advance.
You might want to plant additional flowering annuals in beds or planters for extra colour. If you have tree cover in your garden take into account that this area might be needed for portraits if it rains. With all your guests taking cover in the marquee there may not be any space under the canvas for photographs! If your heart is set on a marquee wedding and your garden isn’t big enough don’t worry, there are plenty of venues available with beautiful gardens and large grounds.
I have photographed so many amazing marquee weddings with a stunning array of beautifully styled spaces, each one completely unique. Some choose long tables and a rustic banquet style, others round tables for a more intimate dining experience. I have enjoyed shooting a wide variety of floral décor, from lavish table arrangements to floral features decorating the marquee posts. I have loved outdoor speeches, backgrounds of twinkling fairy lights, light trees, explosions of flowers and even a black cloth lined space for partying.
