Celia and Xander’s Cozy Hampton Court House Wedding

Celia and Xander met at a friend’s birthday party in London. Xander stopped talking mid-sentence when Celia entered the room, which if you knew him well – this is a rare occurrence! They were introduced, sipped on champagne and tequila while salsa dancing into the night. Just a short time later, on a ski trip in Italy, Xander suggested taking some photos at the top of the mountain. While Celia was slightly distracted by a mother and toddler nearby, Xander got down on one knee in the snow and surprised her with an engagement ring. She was certainly shocked and of course said yes! And so their story begins!
Wanting a winter wedding, Celia chose Hampton Court House as their wedding venue. Set on seven acres in London, the house is a hidden gem with rich interiors and gorgeous gardens perfect for portraits. Their ceremony was conducted at Christ Church in East Sheen where both Xander’s brother and sister were both wed. The church was absolutely filled to the gills with family and friends. It was so important to the couple that as many as possible were gathered to witness the giving and receiving of vows. Steve, Celia’s dad, walked her down the aisle and Xander was once again speechless by Celia’s beauty. Her dress was exquisite and simple, complete with lace sleeve overlay and mink stole to keep out the cold. Xander’s sister read beautifully and the hymns were sung with gusto from their guests. Celia chose a bouquet of white and green with Christmas roses and her bridesmaids had just a hint of terracotta and coffee – very warm and elegant.
Despite a very rainy morning, we managed to find some dry spots around the property for portraits. With Xander by her side and the warmth of her mink stole, Celia looked cozy and wonderfully happy. My favourite moments with these two are definitely when I captured their laughter (which was frequent!), The grey skies did nothing to affect the mood of the day, but instead gave the party a wonderful warm glow. As we headed back to the reception, their guests greeted them with big, genuine and contagious smiles.
“Dancing in the Dark” was the song that Celia and Xander chose for their first dance. They didn’t want anything slow, rather something romantic and upbeat. And they didn’t want to be the only ones on the dance floor! The vibrant melody brought the crowd to its feet and the party began! Over the course of the evening the couple took mental “pictures” of the evening – a “stop and smell the roses” approach for sure – to remember each precious moment. Any stress encountered that day melted away because their fortunate and supportive family and friends. It was a wonderful affair complete with favours of homemade marmalade and jams from the newlyweds.
Thank you to Sophie Duckworth for being my amazing second shooter for the day :)
